The most common form of urban construction is a conversion. It might be taking an existing space, gutting it and starting over.
It can also be taking a space which had one kind of use and transforming it to another – converting a school house to a town house,
for example. Sometimes the conversion happens in a space that is occupied and a staging scenario needs to be developed so
as not to disrupt the occupants.
The secret to a successful conversion is meticulous pre-construction planning.
Because many of the buildings we work on are 100 or more years old, surprises sometimes hide below the rafters. By carefully inspecting
the building and knowing from history how similar buildings have been constructed, we are able to prepare for unexpected issues and keep
the schedule and budget intact.
